(匿名) would you mind making a tutorial on how to focus a picture just like this? post/21545871449 THANK YOU :D

Just so you know, the original picture was already focused…

But of course you can achieve the same result with photoshop :) First you take a picture with a visible background…

Then you duplicate the picture’s layer and use the “Gaussian Blur” Filter on it.

  1. Right Click on the layer to choose “Duplicate Layers
  2. Go to the menu top bar > Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur (make sure the top layer is selected while doing sp)

Set the blurriness to your liking.

Now the entire picture seems unfocused. Time to set the only person(s) we want to be focused on by literally “erasing” their unfocused-self. Take the Eraeser Tool while the top blurred layer is still selected and carefully brush over them…

I recommend using a smaller brush size for details and edges.

It doesn’t always look the way it should because of the perspective, but you at least know how it’s done :)

Hope this helps out!~

(匿名) Would you mind making a tutorial on how to make an icon with a color background?

Yup, sure. Well it’s basically a combination of my tutorials “How to make an Icon” + “How to remove/change the background” but I shall be more specific in this message…

So you grab your Icon base or you cut yourself an Icon out of the image you want to use (shown in the icon tutorial). Since this is going to have a colored background I recommend choosing a picture with a white/light background and not so much details

There are actually many ways to add a colored background by either removing your Icon’s background or adding one on top of it. We’ll go with the second one, but even that method itself has many more varieties…

[1] Select the background area of your Icon using the Quick Selection Tool (), choose the Refine Edge option to adjust your selection (I use a small amount of Smooth and Contrast) and finally add a fill color layer while your background is obviously still selected: Layer » New Fill Layer » Solid Color

If it didn’t come out as neat as it’s supposed to be (you can see them sharp edges) then try the second variation.

[2] Create a new layer (Layer » New » Layer), set it on Multiply (Blending mode), choose your color as well and cover the background area with the Brush Tool.

It’s okay to slightly cover the person as well, because now you’ll take the Eraser Tool () and carefully remove it again while the background keeps covered (it’s easier this way). This process needs a calm hand, but the outcome will look much neater if done properly. Change the blending mode back to Normal and voilá…

Only the coloring left and done is your Icon :)

Other examples done the same way…
Do not use without permission! Please ask me beforhand and credit!

(bbsbadgirl) hi, i have a quick question for the picture inside text tutorial does it also work for gifs?

Yes it does! :) Just remember to read both tutorials, “Pictures inside text” & “How to gif” very carefully before attempting this…

You do know that you can’t pass 500px width and the 1MB gif limit, because otherwise it won’t move on Tumblr since it’s now a gif (that means you have to save it as a gif as well). Also feel free to add any textures or adjustmenst to this in case you want to turn it into an edit.

It’s an adjustment called “Channel Mixer

  • Then I added some Brightness -> Image » Adjustments » Brightness/Contrast + Curves (again optional. don’t need this if your gif is already bright enough)

(匿名) hello! ^^ would you mind helping me? how do you put a picture inside another picture? for example, this one of your posts: post/17774452370 thank you so much sumi for all that you do!!

So sorry for the super late response OTL Something like this seen in the first and fourth panel, right?

(Edit by yunhojaejoong)

This is actually really easy to make, but it only works well with black or other dark colors. So first of all you need the person in your edit to wear sth black/dark…

Then you choose an other picture that you want to appear “inside” the person on your edit. Make sure that this picture should have a lot of light areas on it for example lots of white, lots of skin or lots of light colors. Even skin only would be alright like for example the face takes a lot of space on the whole picture, those kind of pictures would suit this perfectly. Copy+paste that picture above your edit.

This is when the magic happens: Change the blending mode to Screen… jjajan~!

You’re basically done with the main thing, but the second picture gotta need some editing as well. I recommend to adjust it before copy+past-ing it onto your actual edit.

You can also make it black & white (menu topbar > image > adjustments > black & white).

And if you get this kind of problem…

Which is the background of the second picture is visible, because it turned out a tiny bit brighter, simply select with the Retangular Marquee tool () the remaining part of the first edit like this…

Go back to the normal blending mode, select the background with the Eyedropper Tool (), fill the selected area (menu topbar > edit > fill) and set it back to screen.

You’re done C: I told you it’s easy to make. The magic of photoshop. Leave it like this or go ahead and add more stuff to it like textures.

(匿名) sumi, can you please teach me how to add different photos and put them together in to a gif? please? can you tag it in ur messages or tutorials so i can find it? thank you.

Sure. You simply…

and don’t forget to change the seconds to at least 0,5sec so it won’t be playing to fast.

You should also know that you can’t use to many pictures. I used only 4 and it was already 455KB.

yup :)

done! (click this to view the full sized wallpaper).

It’s just like creating an edit, the only difference is: you’re working with huge pictures and it’ll be hard to find huge textures ^^;;
